Key tax dates & deadlines

The recurring deadlines every UK business owner should know. Our clients don't need this page (we track every date for them), but everyone deserves to see what's coming.

WhenWhat's due
31 January Self Assessment online filing deadline Online tax return due, plus balancing payment and first payment on account for the current tax year.
5 April Tax year ends Last day to use ISA, pension and capital gains allowances for the year.
6 April New tax year begins New rates, thresholds and allowances take effect.
31 May P60s to employees Employers must give every employee on the payroll at 5 April a P60.
6 July P11D deadline Report expenses and benefits in kind to HMRC; give copies to employees.
31 July Second payment on account Second Self Assessment payment on account due for the tax year just ended.
5 October Register for Self Assessment Deadline to tell HMRC if you need to file a return for the previous tax year.
31 October Paper Self Assessment deadline Paper tax returns due; file online instead and you get until 31 January.
1 month + 7 days after quarter end VAT return & payment Standard deadline for each VAT quarter, filed through MTD-compatible software.
9 months + 1 day after year end Corporation tax payment For companies with profits under £1.5m. The CT600 return itself is due 12 months after the period end.
9 months after year end Companies House accounts Annual accounts filing deadline for private limited companies.
