Corporation Tax & Business Tax

We keep your company compliant with corporation tax self assessment, make sure you claim every relief available, and represent you robustly if HMRC opens an enquiry.

Corporation tax, handled end to end

Corporation tax self assessment puts the burden squarely on the company: calculate the liability correctly, pay on time, file on time. We take that burden on:

  • CT600 preparation and filing with full tax computations
  • Payment reminders ahead of the 9-months-and-1-day deadline
  • Capital allowances: full expensing, the Annual Investment Allowance, and the frequently missed claims on property and equipment
  • Associated company rules: making sure shared thresholds don't produce nasty surprises
  • Planning around the 19% / 25% bands and marginal relief, including timing of profits and pension contributions

Reliefs worth real money

  • R&D tax relief: honestly assessed, properly documented, robustly claimed
  • Capital allowances reviews on purchases, fit-outs and commercial property
  • Loss relief planning: carrying losses back, forward or sideways for the best result

IR35 and off-payroll working

If you contract through your own company, IR35 status determines how you're taxed. We review contracts and working practices, explain your position in plain terms, and help you respond if a client's status determination looks wrong.

HMRC enquiries and investigations

Enquiries are stressful, slow and adversarial by design. Our directors have dealt with HMRC for over three decades: we manage the correspondence, keep the enquiry within its proper scope, and negotiate settlements where needed so you can keep running the business.

Common questions

What is the corporation tax rate?

For 2026/27: 19% on profits up to £50,000, 25% on profits over £250,000, with marginal relief in between, an effective marginal rate of around 26.5% in that band. The thresholds are shared between associated companies, which catches many owners of multiple companies out.

When is corporation tax due?

Payment is due 9 months and 1 day after your accounting period ends; the CT600 return is due 12 months after. Note the payment deadline comes before the filing deadline.

Could my company claim R&D tax relief?

If you're developing new products, processes or software and resolving genuine technical uncertainty, possibly. The regime has tightened and claims are heavily scrutinised, so the answer needs to be evidenced properly. We'll give you an honest assessment before anything is claimed.

What happens in an HMRC enquiry?

HMRC writes asking questions about a return, sometimes one aspect, sometimes the whole thing. With us as your agent, correspondence comes through us, we manage the responses and timescales, and you get an experienced buffer between you and the inspector.
